During the game on Wednesday evening, October 1, 2025, I had three reasons to be happy about refereeing this match.
1. NOSV (North-East Switzerland Wrestling Association)
On Wednesday, October 1, a special test match took place between FC Räterschen and a selection from the Northeast Swiss Wrestling Association (NOSV).
FC Räterschen, which mainly fields players under 40 and a few younger ones, faced the wrestlers from the NOSV, who are preparing for their traditional Grümpelturnier tournament against other associations. The game was originally requested so that the wrestlers could get some training in. Many may have thought that the soccer players would dominate, but that was not the case: the game ended in a surprisingly close 5-4 victory for FC Räterschen.
After the match, there was a lively discussion about the experiences of the ESAF 2026 (Swiss Federal Wrestling and Alpine Games Festival) and it was agreed to repeat the whole thing again next year. The test match seems to have been very beneficial. The NOSV secured first place in the Grümpelturnier tournament. Congratulations

2. Togehter
My son Manuel and I were able to be on the pitch together in his last game for the FC Räterschen Liga 30+ team.
As I am a referee for FCR, I would like to thank FVRZ for granting me special permission to referee a game at my home club.

3. Honored for my 700th game refereed for the FVRZ and the FCR
I was honored for my 700th game as referee, which I was able to officiate for FCR as club referee that evening and in that game.

That evening also marked my 700th game as a referee. The FCR congratulated me on this achievement. Kurt Buchmann presented me with a referee jersey bearing the
number 700 and the FCR emblem.
It was a gift that really touched me..

700 games, indeed! I recall my first game, Jun C Oberwinterthur against Turbenthal, on October 21, 2000. I was nervous, just like some of my new referees are today. And that’s OKAY, because it takes a lot of experience as a referee to officiate an exciting and emotional game well. I encourage athletic competition. I enforce the rules in a friendly and consistent manner.
PS: How much time does 700 games actually take?
One game takes
up to 1 hour to travel there,
1.5 hours of preparation with a 3 km warm-up run,
1.5 hours of refereeing with 7-8 km of running,
0.5 hours of showering and reporting the results, up to
1 hour to travel back, and up to
0.5 hours of reporting to the FVRZ .
That’s a total of 5 to 6 hours, or half a day per game, which to date (Nov. 25) amounts to 350 days, or simply put, 2 assignments every day for a whole year.
.
Statistics 2025
During 2025, I refereed 31 games myself. I also mentored 12 new referees. That adds up to 43 days of service for the FVRZ.
I ran a total of 223 km from kick-off to the final whistle. With an additional 3 km warm-up before the games, I ran a total of 304 km, as measured by my Garmin watch. As in previous years, this corresponds to 10 km per game officiated.
