My sporting year in 2025 had three highlights \u2013 all in a single evening.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

But first, I’d like to mention that it wasn’t an easy year for me physically. After suffering from the flu, tearing a muscle fiber, and falling down the stairs and injuring my knee, I had to fight my way back to a good level of fitness. Because to be respected by the teams, I have to be fit as a referee.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Last year, I often received recognition for being a good referee \u2013 even from the losers in the top match of the 4th league in Einsiedeln against Lachen. That motivates me to keep going.<\/p>\n

During the game on Wednesday evening, October 1, 2025, I had three reasons to be happy about refereeing this match.<\/h3>\n

On Wednesday, October 1, a special test match took place between FC R\u00e4terschen and a selection from the Northeast Swiss Wrestling Association (NOSV).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

FC R\u00e4terschen, which mainly fields players under 40 and a few younger ones, faced the wrestlers from the NOSV, who are preparing for their traditional Gr\u00fcmpelturnier tournament against other associations. The game was originally requested so that the wrestlers could get some training in. Many may have thought that the soccer players would dominate, but that was not the case: the game ended in a surprisingly close 5-4 victory for FC R\u00e4terschen.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

After the match, there was a lively discussion about the experiences of the ESAF 2026 (Swiss Federal Wrestling and Alpine Games Festival) and it was agreed to repeat the whole thing again next year. The test match seems to have been very beneficial. The NOSV secured first place in the Gr\u00fcmpelturnier tournament. Congratulations<\/p>\n

My son Manuel and I were able to be on the pitch together in his last game for the FC R\u00e4terschen Liga 30+ team.<\/p>\n

3. Honored for my 700th game refereed for the FVRZ and the FCR<\/h3>\n

That evening also marked my 700th game as a referee. The FCR congratulated me on this achievement. Kurt Buchmann presented me with a referee jersey bearing the
number 700<\/span><\/strong> and the FCR emblem.
It was a gift that really touched me..<\/p>\n

700 games, indeed! I recall my first game, Jun C Oberwinterthur against Turbenthal, on October 21, 2000. I was nervous, just like some of my new referees are today. And that’s OKAY, because it takes a lot of experience as a referee to officiate an exciting and emotional game well. I encourage athletic competition. I enforce the rules in a friendly and consistent manner.<\/p>\n

PS: How much time does 700 games actually take?<\/p>\n

One game takes
up to 1 hour to travel there,
1.5 hours of preparation with a 3 km warm-up run,
1.5 hours of refereeing with 7-8 km of running,
0.5 hours of showering and reporting the results, up to
1 hour to travel back, and up to
0.5 hours of reporting to the FVRZ .<\/p>\n

That’s a total of 5 to 6 hours, or half a day per game, which to date (Nov. 25) amounts to 350 days, or simply put, 2 assignments every day for a whole year.<\/p>\n

During 2025, I refereed 31 games myself. I also mentored 12 new referees. That adds up to 43 days of service for the FVRZ.<\/p>\n

I ran a total of 223 km from kick-off to the final whistle. With an additional 3 km warm-up before the games, I ran a total of 304 km, as measured by my Garmin watch. As in previous years, this corresponds to 10 km per game officiated.<\/p>\n
